PRETORIA \u2013 As the year 2021 draws to an end, the economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic continue to be felt.<\/p>\n

However, 2021 wasn\u2019t all doom and gloom for African women in tax\u2026 The\u00a0<\/span>United Nations tax committee appointed three African women<\/a>\u00a0as part of the 25 experts for the new leadership and the African Tax Administration Forum launched the ATAF Women In Tax Network (AWITN).<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0<\/span>AWITN represents and connects the women of Africa<\/a>\u00a0working in taxation with the aim of furthering discussion on the effect of tax policy on gender equality and empowering women in tax.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Network\u2019s Ms Veronique Herminie Sinon dedicated a poem to inspire and promote women\u2019s sense of self-worth.<\/p>\n

Us Women<\/p>\n

Born of strength<\/p>\n

Studied at length<\/p>\n

Secrets we clench<\/p>\n

Created with patience<\/p>\n

Driven to resilience<\/p>\n

With the gift of silence<\/p>\n

Kept our distance<\/p>\n

Found a stance<\/p>\n

Us Women<\/p>\n

Blessed to nurture<\/p>\n

Make peace and pleasure<\/p>\n

Home and hearth we keep<\/p>\n

Selfless with love so deep<\/p>\n

For keen and foe<\/p>\n

But never once should we bow<\/p>\n

Nor be broken or tiptoe<\/p>\n

For those who bring our self-esteem low<\/p>\n

Us Women<\/p>\n

With pride we should stand<\/p>\n

We are a brand<\/p>\n

Through life we empower<\/p>\n

Through work we can prosper<\/p>\n

With much style and grace,<\/p>\n

Keep up the pace<\/p>\n

Win the race,<\/p>\n

Be a learner, a leader, an achiever<\/p>\n

Us Women – Together we can be better!<\/p>\n
