ATAF continues to strengthen its collaboration with member administrations to support the development of efficient, effective, and resilient tax systems across the continent. This ongoing engagement reflects ATAF’s commitment to working alongside its members to address evolving challenges in tax administration.
From 25 to 28, ATAF experts Dr Moses Chamisa and Ms Wynnona Steyn delivered a targeted technical engagement with the Egyptian Tax Authority (ETA), that focused on strengthening institutional capacity in revenue forecasting and tax analysis. The engagement aimed to enhance ETA’s ability to support fiscal planning and informed decision-making through improved analytical capability. The technical discussions emphasised practical approaches to assessing tax revenue performance, strengthening forecasting methodologies, and improving the credibility and reliability of revenue projections. These efforts contribute to more informed policy formulation, effective compliance strategies, and sound national budget planning.
This engagement builds on a long-standing partnership between ATAF and ETA, characterised by sustained technical collaboration and knowledge exchange. The two institutions have worked together on a range of capacity-building initiatives, including technical training in priority areas such as transfer pricing and exchange of information. Most recently, specialised training was delivered to ETA’s Exchange of Information Unit to support preparedness for upcoming international evaluations.
Looking ahead, ATAF and ETA have also agreed to collaborate on the design and implementation of advanced training programmes that integrate modern digital systems with legislative and administrative frameworks. These programmes are expected to cover key areas including international taxation, transfer pricing, general tax audits, risk analysis and management, VAT fraud, leadership, data analytics, and the fight against tax evasion—equipping tax officials to respond effectively to both global developments and regional challenges.
Cooperation between ATAF and ETA further extends to regional and international tax frameworks. Egypt remains an active contributor to ATAF’s multilateral initiatives and to strengthening Africa’s collective voice in global tax discussions, including participation in the drafting of the United Nations Framework Convention on International Tax Cooperation.
Through this evolving partnership, ATAF and the Egyptian Tax Authority continue to work together to advance data-driven, internationally aligned, and sustainable tax administration practices; reinforcing a shared commitment to effective domestic resource mobilisation and long-term development across Africa.
