ATAF’s expert, Mr Linstrom Marangu, joined tax experts from across the East African Community (EAC) in Kampala, Uganda, from 18–22 May 2026 for the 101st Meeting of the East Africa Revenue Authorities Technical Committee (EARATC), contributing technical perspectives as part of ATAF’s support to Regional Economic Communities (RECs) and African countries working to strengthen tax systems and domestic revenue mobilisation.

Discussions focused on practical solutions to some of the region’s most pressing tax administration challenges. Issues such as tax evasion, illicit financial flows, digitalisation, and the taxation of cross-border economic activities featured prominently on the agenda, highlighting the need for coordinated approaches that extend beyond national borders.

The meeting provided a platform for participants to exchange experiences and discuss measures to strengthen tax administration, improve compliance, and support regional integration across the EAC.

EARATC plays an important role in advancing tax cooperation within the region. Its mandate includes harmonising tax procedures, customs laws, and domestic tax policies, while also promoting joint approaches to addressing tax evasion, illicit financial flows, revenue leakages, and other emerging challenges affecting tax administrations.

Through its participation, ATAF contributed to discussions on strengthening tax administration and domestic revenue mobilisation, while reinforcing the value of regional cooperation in addressing shared challenges and advancing sustainable tax reforms across Africa.
