ATAF hosted a delegation from Tanzania’s Office of the Tax Ombud at its offices in Pretoria as part of a benchmarking and knowledge-sharing engagement aimed at strengthening tax ombud systems and enhancing taxpayer oversight.
Led by the Acting Tax Ombud, Ms Witness Mollel, the visit brought together officials from the Office of the Tax Ombud to engage with ATAF experts and exchange practical experiences on improving tax administration and promoting good governance.
Throughout the visit, discussions focused on practical approaches to strengthening tax administration, with particular emphasis on transparency, accountability, and the role of tax ombud institutions in safeguarding taxpayer rights. Participants explored ways to enhance institutional effectiveness, drawing on regional experiences and identifying solutions that could be adapted to Tanzania’s context.
The sessions provided a platform for open dialogue on common challenges, enabling participants to reflect on their current frameworks and identify practical steps to strengthen their tax ombud function and improve service delivery.
The engagement highlights ATAF’s role in facilitating practical knowledge exchange and supporting member institutions through tailored, experience-based engagements.
