Kenya is strengthening its taxpayer registration systems following a joint engagement that brought together the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), the Finnish Tax Administration (VERO), and ATAF.

Held in Nairobi from 2–6 March 2026, the engagement provided a platform for KRA technical teams to work closely with international experts to review and improve end-to-end taxpayer registration processes.

Over the course of the week, discussions focused on practical ways to enhance register maintenance, strengthen risk management, and leverage analytics and automation to improve data quality and system performance. Participants also explored approaches to strengthening debt recovery processes and safeguarding the integrity of taxpayer information.

The engagement combined international experience with local expertise, enabling KRA to assess its current systems and identify practical steps to modernise and strengthen its taxpayer register, an essential foundation for effective tax administration.

Supported by Finland’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the initiative reflects the value of peer learning and collaboration in addressing common challenges faced by tax administrations.

As tax systems become increasingly data-driven, strengthening taxpayer registration remains critical to improving compliance, managing risk, and ensuring that administrations are better equipped to mobilise revenue effectively.
